What Does Art School Not Teach?
Graduation Speech re-edits found footage from the artist’s own graduation ceremony.
The video slows the celebratory moment, magnifying overlooked details and heightening the conflicting emotions of excitement and anxiety that accompany receiving a diploma and entering the “real world.”
Through the narration of seven short post-graduation memories, the artist reflects on the limitations of art education. Art schools instruct students to pursue professional practice and strive for career success, yet rarely address the realities of survival “as an artist” or encourage alternative imaginaries of "being an artist" beyond the structures of the art world.
